SheLeads 2015

sheleads3Last year, a little nudge from God started a conference specifically designed to equip women’s ministry leaders. SheLeads 2014 was born with about 35 people attending last January.

At least two of the attendees came from churches with no active ministry specifically geared for women. I have been so encouraged as I watched and heard from both of them through this year. Both held great events for their women, but more importantly, they provided opportunities for growth and fellowship to flourish in their congregations.

Our vision has grown a bit this year to include special sessions for ministry wives. Sometimes, ministry wives are thrown into the leadership limelight when they do not think of themselves as leaders. So Kathy Litton of the North American Mission Board will be offering sessions such as “Leader, Like it or Not”, specifically to  address this need. Bobi Ann Allen, Director of Women’s Ministry for all of the Willowbrook Baptist church campuses will also be addressing needs in this area along with how to get started.

We will still offer the basics…how to start a ministry, how to create a team…but we have also added some innovative topics like creating an online presence for your ministry with Kari Long of Willowbrook. Mary Beth Powers from Hazel Green First Baptist will be sharing ideas for discipleship and mentoring. And how in the world do we handle (or even know) all the details for planning an event? Jennifer Morgan of Willowbrook will be sharing all her planning secrets!

Taryn Pitman of Highland Park Baptist has a burden for community outreach and discipleship and will teach two sessions this year. How can women’s ministry better support missions? Hear Hannah Rowe’s mission-driven heart with ideas to plug into missions.

I will share ideas about counseling women as they bring needs to the altar. What should we say? What shouldn’t we say? What are some scriptures which may be helpful? I will also be sharing some biblical leadership principles for women.

And of course we need some good worship to warm our hearts. Jessica Hollis, music intern at Sevier Heights Baptist North Campus, will be leading our worship times.

Seasoned ministry leaders or brand new leaders will find sessions that will help grow your women’s ministry. And ministry wives will find the support and guidance they need to find their “leadership legs”.
