Paid in Full

She was dancing her heart out at the front of the auditorium at this Christian women’s conference – raising her hands to the sky during worship, shouting amen. Clearly, there was a story behind her infectious worship. Little did I know I would get to hear it a bit later that evening from the stage.

This woman had been involved in all kinds of drugs and had done hard jail time. But then Jesus…her life had been totally transformed because He was willing to hang on a cross and pay the debt she owed for her sins. Because she was no longer under the crushing debt of her own sin, she was free to raise her hands and worship the one who had removed the shackles of bondage.

But the truth is, even if we have never done drugs, never spent one minute in jail, or done anything on what we could consider the “bad list” of sins (no such thing by the way), all of us are in the same boat when it comes to sin debt.

We were all dead in our trespasses and sins according to Ephesians 2:1. Then there is a “But God” moment!

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved…

Ephesians 2:4-5

That should make us all want to jump and shout for joy! But wait – there is more! And it is these verses that make me want to cry, raise my hand, and shout HALLELUJAH every time I read them!

And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

Colossians 2:13-14

As we enjoy our Good Friday, take a pause to remember that Jesus paid it all…all to Him we owe.
