Wrapping My Tree with Jesus

It is an annual tradition around here that comes in 3’s and in this order…

This is the “random” ribbon I picked up at Hobby Lobby. God can use whatever He wants to speak to us when we least expect it!

1. Thanksgiving

2. Iron Bowl (Alabama Vs. Auburn)

3. Christmas Decorating

Thanksgiving is always wrapped up with tables full of cornbread dressing, turkey, Mawmaw’s famous fried okra, and a plethora of desserts. This year, the Iron Bowl was wrapped in crimson and white. Wow what a game! And finally, my Christmas tree is wrapped in the names of Jesus.

It wasn’t something I planned. The purchase of the ribbon was pretty impulsive actually – I grabbed 3 rolls on my way out of Hobby Lobby. I liked the color and the gold print on it. But as I started wrapping my tree in it, I noticed what it actually said.

“Emmanuel, Prince of Peace, Holy One, Shepherd, The Son of Man, Savior, Bread of Life, Lamb of God”

I don’t even know how to explain it. As I went round and round my tree with the ribbon, I got holy “heebie jeebies” with each unveiling of a different name of Jesus.

As I ponder these names, the one that is speaking most clearly  to me now is Savior. Jesus declared His divine purpose on earth…”For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Luke 19:10.

In Luke 1:46-55, Mary broke out into an amazing praise session to God called the Magnificat after learning she was carrying the Savior of the world. In verse 47 she says “my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior”.

I want to be Mary-minded this season. I want to remember the feeling of wrapping my tree with the names of Jesus. Most importantly, I want to wrap my Christmas season – not just my tree –  in all of the names of Jesus.

I believe the Bible provides several different names of Jesus to speak to us in specific seasons of our lives. Which name of Jesus is most significant in your life right now and why? I’d love to hear from you.
