Today is the Day!

I absolutely think the book of Isaiah is beautiful. The words that God inspired Isaiah to speak in many cases are extremely poetic. However poetic the book may be, it is a book of prophecy filled with warnings to the straying Children of Israel – warnings that we should heed as well.

Isaiah 55:6 gives one of these warning: Seek the LORD while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. People often mistakenly think that they can accept Christ as Savior whenever “they” get ready. This verse tells us something different. There is a very serious implication here. If we should seek Him “while He may be found”, there may be a time when He cannot be found. Friends, we have no guarantees that we will live beyond the moment in which we are currently living. Even if we do live until we are 105, there is no guarantee that our hearts will remain soft toward receiving Christ. Every time you reject and refuse to submit to His leadership, your heart becomes a little more calloused to the Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 6:2 says…Behold, now is “the acceptable time,” behold, now is “the day of salvation”. Why would we continually risk our eternal salvation because we feel it is not yet “time”. Listen to this story I found in The Bible Exposition Commentary, Vol. I.

A pastor was dealing with a young lady who was arguing that she had plenty of time to decide for Jesus Christ. He handed her a piece of paper and said, “Would you sign a statement that you would be willing to postpone salvation for a year?” No, she would not do that. Six months? No again. One month? She hesitated, but said no. Then she began to see the folly of her argument because she had assurance of opportunity only for today; and she trusted Christ without delay.

Are you willing to waste away your day of salvation? If you feel something tugging at your heart about accepting Christ, that is the conviction of the Holy Spirit.
